I’m a firm believer in not packing too many shoes when you traveler. That said, I’m a shoe lover and always want to have good choices when I travel. That’s why I think it’s important to have a fashionable looking pair of flats in your shoe travel wardrobe. These need to be nice looking, capable of being worn as you walk around all day, easily cared for, pack in little space, and are comfortable, too!
Sound impossible? Not at all!
I have several pair that fit these requirements, and as a dedicated shoe fan am always on the lookout for more!
These Dorina Mary Jane’s from B.O.C. are a great example of a perfect travel shoe.
It’s and update on a classic shoe style with adaptations made for the traveler. The shoes are made of soft leather, with an adjustable strap for comfort, and have a lightweight polyurethane sole for durability and comfort. The cushioned footbed means you can walk for miles yet still be kind to your feet.
If you’re going out dancing, you’re still going to want a sexy pair of sandals, but for everyday traveling, these Mary Jane’s can be worn smartly with pants, skirts, or casual dresses. You can look good while still taking care of yourself.
Available in mahogany and black, you can find these Mary Janes at Magellan’s. $75.

Information is king, especially when you’re traveling. If you don’t have access to your laptop, you don’t have to be cut out of the informational loop.
For Palm OS-based PDA’s and smart phones (like the Treo), SplashData’s SplashTravel Professional Edition offers real-time flight, weather, and currency data. With this software you’ll be able to check flight delays, get your departure gate information, and find out whether it will be sunny or snowy at your destination, or find out how much the dollar to euro value has changed.
You’ll also get a list of additional travel tools that let you create multiple packing lists, track expenses (useful for filling out expense reports), currency converters, and a variety of other destination information.
SplashTravel Professional Edition is available on a subscription basis for $6.95 per month or $49.95 per year. A non-subscription version, SplashTravel Standard Edition, includes all features except for the flight and weather data services, and is available for $29.95. Both come with a 15-day free trial.

Storage Kaddy Space Saving Compression Bags may be just what you need if you can’t seem to cut down on what you pack.
I’ve never tried them, but I’ve worked with a lot of people who swear by them. And I’ve seen them take bulky items like heavy coats and personal pillows, and pack them in the exact same amount of luggage space that I use.
The travel bags do not require a vacuum to suck the air out. All you have to do is pack your items in the bag, and then roll them up. The rolling process removes the air from the bag so your items can be packed flat. Once they’re flat, you can stack them all up neatly in your luggage.
The bags come in several sizes, and are sold in a variety of combination packs. They are currently sale priced starting at $13.97 for a 3-piece space saver combo, which includes one large and two medium Compression Kaddy’s.

Whether you’re going away for a quick New Year’s overnight or running away from home for a weekend getaway, the fashionable and functional cinda b bags have lovely choices that you’ll want to add to your luggage wardrobe.
Offering a full line of fun, contemporary quilted fabric travel bags and accessories, 15 different styles in all, cinda b serves up the perfect combination of fashionable designs and durable fabrics. These bags are designed to be used, with fabrics to last and style to match.
The fabrics are all water-resistant and machine washable, and are very lightweight. Because they are soft and flexible, you can squish them into tight spaces like an overhead bin on the airplane. The duffels have a “big mouth” opening so you can pop them open and see all your stuff – no more rooting around inside of a dark duffel to find what you’re looking for.
There are 15 different styles of bags, three unique patterns, and seven different colors, ranging in price from $16-164. Bags are machine washable, just turn them inside out and wash with like colors.
In the photo: Black Beauty Weekender ($124), holds a weekend worth of clothes, with room for reading material and a few other odds and ends, and have room for a purchase or two along the way.

There are times when you just shouldn’t go barefoot. And for those times, Micci Travel Treads are the next best thing.
Designed for the frequent traveler to keep their feet clean and dry on the plane and in hotel rooms, these comfy treads also come in handy around the house, in the locker room, at the spa, or even for a teen’s dorm room.
It’s more than a sock, but less than a shoe, and can keep your feet warm and protected from anything lingering on a floor. They are perfect on a long flight where you may want to slip off your shoes, but still want your feet protected and warm.
Made of a spandex/nylon blend, the treads have a foam insole and no-slip sole. Roll them up and tuck them in a corner of your suitcase or carryon – they take up no room at all.
Machine washable. Purchase Micci Travel Treads on line, $24.95.
